Originally developed by Ida P. Rolf, Ph.D., Rolfing (aka Structural Integration) is a system of fascial bodywork designed to enhance overall wellness by balancing connective tissues throughout the body. Clients commonly report feeling "lighter" after a session of Rolfing, where work focuses on education and awareness every bit as much as pain management.

Fundamentally, Rolfing is based on some simple ideas about human structure: (1) most human beings are significantly out of alignment with gravity; (2) we function better when we are lined up with gravity; and (3) the human body is so plastic that its alignment can be brought into harmony with gravity at virtually any point in life.

In a Rolfing treatment (or series), the body is systematically and physically manipulated in order to achieve better balance and, as such, better harmony with gravity. Targeting soft tissues, Rolfers use gentle techniques to address restrictions, layer by layer in order to facilitate effective and lasting freedom of movement.

ABOUT ROLFING

WHAT IS THE TEN SERIES?

The hallmark of Rolfing Structural Integration is a standardized “recipe” known as the Ten-Series, the goal of which is to systematically balance and optimize both the structure (shape) and function (movement) of the entire body over the course of ten Rolfing sessions.

Each session focuses on freeing restrictions or holdings trapped in a particular region of the body. A practitioner also maintains a holistic view of the client’s entire system during each session, thus ensuring the transformational process evolves in a comfortable and harmonious way.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

Rolfing aims to resolve discomfort, release tension and alleviate pain. Research shows that Rolfing significantly reduces chronic stress and deteriorating changes in the body structure.

Rolfing has helped people from all walks of life, from all ages and backgrounds. Those who have undergone a Ten Series have mentioned results ranging from better stress management and resolution of pain, to entire career and relationship overhauls.

The potential benefits of one's Rolfing treatment will be enhanced by self-guided stretching and exercise routines, which are discussed in each session. Attention toward posture and habits of daily living will also highlight and deepen the client's experience of "the work."
