On Movement Work

Meditating on movement. on potential and potentiality. on the clunkiness of change along the path to fluidity.

In structural work like Rolfing/SI we aim to access the nervous system in order to facilitate change in the physical structure of a body. the nervous system is a truly brilliant network that- under the right touch- provides instant access to our countless layers of muscle and bone and guts...indeed all tissues. did you know each layer of cells in our bodies have their own threshold? their own distinct needs + boundaries, each asking for a particular kind of touch. a specific kind of opening.

So what does this all mean in your actual life? as you go through the motions of the day-to-day, consider the subtly of the nervous system... consider subtle thresholds like baby steps through change. whether you're applying this principal to stress management or stretching or even something very active like weightlifting, see if you can become aware of the details of the change you seek rather than just the end goal. i promise that the success you find will be more genuine, long-lasting, and part of a solid infrastructure for newer more functional habits and patterns. <3
